Our Mission

About TBIncredible

TBIncredible is a therapy program made with the intention to serve the brain injured community in a unique and innovative way. By providing positive, artistic recreational activities, our organization can aid the brain injury recovery process.

According to the American Therapeutic Recreational Association, recreational therapy is “a treatment service designed to restore, remediate, and rehabilitate a person’s level of functioning and independence in life activities…”. As a form of artistic recreational therapy, TBIncredible provides an environment, filled with encouragement and cheerfulness, where each person can communicate and express emotions through photography. The focus is to use photography to help relieve anxieties and insecurities.

TBIncredible provides societal benefits by extending membership to all those affected by traumatic brain injury or those that know someone with a brain injury. The increasing number of happy, stable, functional and contributing members of the community helps society at-large achieve its goals. At the individual level, the sense of belonging to a community that is accepting and understanding is a source of self-worth, improving the resolve to live a long and prosperous life.

Our Story

As the youngest of three children growing up in New Jersey, Tanya Gauthier understands the importance of family and strong community values. From ballet classes to extra tutoring sessions, she learned to appreciate the value of hard work at a very young age. In 2009, while in her junior year at West Point, Tanya survived a near fatal car accident that left her with a traumatic brain injury. Instead of feeling sorry for herself, Tanya was determined to complete her education. In 2011, she earned her degree in psychology and environmental engineering from the United States Military Academy at West point. Tanya’s mantra, ‘Keep Going!’ serves as her rallying cry when faced with adversity.

While 2020 has been a challenging year for nearly everyone, Tanya persevered and founded TBIncredible nonprofit for fellow brain injury survivors. The organization, TBIncredible provides free recreational therapy through therapeutic photography. Through her love for photography, she found a wonderful way to share her passion with other TBI survivors to aid in their recovery. Always thinking of others, more than herself, Tanya uses therapeutic photography to bring back happiness to those that need it the most.
